Grade 6
Rite of Passage
The Rite of Passage Series at PJS engages students in experiential learning tailored to each graduating class, guiding them through the transition from childhood to adolescence. Students are expected to complete written assignments and reflections in a dialogue journal, as well as attend seminar meetings with Ms. Clark. The focus of Rite of Passage is leadership, scholarship and service.
The Grade 6 Exhibition
The Exhibition is a culminating event of the Primary Years Program and a personal rite of passage for our Grade 6 students. This in-depth presentation provides an opportunity for our graduating students to select and explore an issue of global significance which they present to our school community. Throughout the inquiry process, students demonstrate their understanding of the IB learner profile and the essential elements of the PYP as they document their learning. Mentors and experts from the school and larger community support students as they plan and conduct interviews, surveys, field visits, or science investigations, collect artifacts, and search for relevant information. Students actively reflect on their learning process by keeping a journal or portfolio of work in progress and participating in self-assessment. Students take part in all phases of the planning and staging of the exhibition. They determine how they will share the story of their learning and action taken (or future plans for action) with the school community. In addition to a research paper and oral component, students choose other presentation methods that may include artwork, poetry, song, dance, film, digital presentations, or use of other technology.
Peer Leadership
We are excited to announce the launch of the Peer Leadership Program at Princeton Junior School, a new initiative designed to build a strong sense of community and foster mentorship between students. As Facilitated by Mrs. Clark and Ms. DeMuccio. This program, provides our Grade 6 students the opportunity to serve as Peer Leaders for the students in the Grade 1/2 Suite.
Throughout the school year, Grade 6 students will meet weekly, and they will engage with the Grade 1/2 Suite on a monthly basis. The goal is to help the younger students navigate the joys and challenges of elementary school, focusing on social-emotional learning and fostering a supportive environment for all.
